Lysine-Based Silicone Surfactants

چکیده
Highly efficient silicone surfactants are typically based on polyether hydrophiles. As part of a program to increase the natural content silicones, we describe synthesis with amino acid hydrophiles (cysteine, arginine, and lysine). The compounds were prepared using radial thiol–ene reaction vinylsilicones for cysteine derivatives catalyst-free aza-Michael arginine lysine. Short chain monomer:hydrophile ratios 5:1 or less (e.g., telechelic silicones lysine-linker-(Me2OSi)n-linker-lysine n = 10) ineffective at stabilizing emulsions oil (D4): water. However, excellent realized as length (n) increased 25 50, water-in-oil high water (80% 90%). surfactants, especially longer compounds, stable against pH except <4 >9 survived freeze/thaw cycles. These contain 12–25% materials, improving their sustainability compared those containing synthetic

Phospholipid bilayer-perturbing properties underlying lysis induced by pH-sensitive cationic lysine-based surfactants in biomembranes.
Amino acid-based surfactants constitute an important class of natural surface-active biomolecules with an unpredictable number of industrial applications. To gain a better mechanistic understanding of surfactant-induced membrane destabilization, we assessed the phospholipid bilayer-perturbing properties of new cationic lysine-based surfactants. We used erythrocytes as biomembrane models to stud...
متن کاملThe role of counterions in the membrane-disruptive properties of pH-sensitive lysine-based surfactants.
Surfactants are among the most versatile and widely used excipients in pharmaceuticals. This versatility, together with their pH-responsive membrane-disruptive activity and low toxicity, could also enable their potential application in drug delivery systems. Five anionic lysine-based surfactants which differ in the nature of their counterion were studied. Their capacity to disrupt the cell memb...
متن کاملMixed monolayer of DPPC and lysine-based cationic surfactants: an investigation into the antimicrobial activity.
In this paper, we report studies which aim to elucidate the mechanisms involved in the antimicrobial activity of three cationic lysine-based surfactants: LLM, LALM, and C6 (LL)2. To this end, a simple membrane model (i.e., 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-phosphatidylcholine, DPPC) was used to explore the monolayer properties at the air/liquid interface. Compression π-A isotherms of mixtures of DPPC/lysine s...
متن کاملAmino acid-based surfactants
The amino acid-based surfactants contain an amide bond, which may contribute to the selfassembly of the surfactants both at surfaces and in the bulk. In order to assess the importance of this type of intermolecular association, the behavior of sodium lauroyl glycinate and sodium lauroyl sarcosinate were compared. The former surfactant is capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds while th...
متن کاملDirect Force Measurement of Silicone- and Hydrocarbon-Based ABATriblock Surfactants in Alcoholic Media by Atomic Force Microscopy
The surface force profiles between an atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip and a self-assembled monolayer of noctadecyltrichlorosilane on oxidized silicon were measured in an ABA triblock series of silicone and Pluronic surfactant solutions. Changes in steric force barrier thickness and height were examined as a function of hydrophobic and hydrophilic block size and ethanol to water ratio in mixed...
